Omnibus Press is delighted to announce they will be publishing a fully revised new edition of The Lyrics of Leonard Cohen with contributions from author and musician Malka Marom. This new edition will feature previously unpublished interviews and unseen pictures of the much-loved Canadian singer, songwriter, poet and novelist.
When his first album made him an unlikely star in the late 1960s, Leonard Cohen was hailed as the new poet of song. His melodies were hauntingly melodic and his lyrics were like no one else’s: poignant, romantic, mystical and darkly comic.
This new edition features the lyrics to over 100 of those classic songs, many of them now recorded by a new generations of artists including U2, Jeff Buckley, Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright and Teddy Thompson.
Cohen has been inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, as well as the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is also a Companion of the Order of Canada, the nation’s highest civilian honour. In 2011, Cohen received a Princess of Asturias Awards for literature.
Malka Marom is a Canadian writer, journalist and radio broadcaster who recently published the book Joni Mitchell: In Her Own Words. Malka hosted a weekly CBC Radio program called Songs of Our People, profiling musicians, singers and poets; such as her lifelong friends Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen.
