Ex-Novello employee Spencer Freeman has been awarded an MBE in this year’s New Year’s Honour list, for services to music and the arts in Eastbourne, East Sussex.
Freeman worked at Novello for many years and retired shortly before Music Sales acquired Novello. His last senior role at the company was as Head of Copyright. Always a keen musician, in his retirement, he represented Novello at the Three Choirs Festival and has since then maintained an active musical life in Eastbourne.
In the next few months he will be invited to be formally presented with the accolade and he is looking forward to the occasion. He said, ‘If I am lucky it might be the Queen, if not it will be another member of the royal family which will also be wonderful. I have been to receptions at St James Palace before and had very brief conversations with the Queen but this is by far more exciting than that.’
